Garment Care
Love Your Clothes Longer: The Notch Above Care Guide
Every Notch Above piece is crafted from high-quality, natural, and handwoven fabrics. Because these materials are living fibers, they require a little extra love to maintain their shape, color, and texture over the years.
1. General Care Tips for All Fabrics
-
Wash Less: To extend the life of your garment and save water, only wash when necessary. Often, airing out a garment is enough to refresh it.
-
Cold is Gold: Always use cold water. Heat can break down fibers and cause handwoven fabrics to shrink or lose their vibrant colors.
-
Gentle Detergents: Use eco-friendly, pH-neutral liquid detergents. Avoid bleach or harsh stain removers.
-
Inside Out: Always turn your garments inside out before washing to protect the hand-printed or hand-woven surface.
2. Fabric-Specific Instructions
Handwoven Cotton & Ikat (The Basics Edit / Woven Wonders)
-
First Wash: We recommend dry cleaning for the first wash to set the hand-dyed colors.
-
Subsequent Washes: Hand wash separately in cold water. Do not soak for long periods.
-
Note: Natural dyes may "bleed" slightly in the first few washes; this is a hallmark of authentic hand-dyed textiles.
Italian Banana Crepe (The Lux Edit)
-
Handle with Care: This is a delicate, luxury fiber. We highly recommend Professional Dry Clean Only to maintain the unique drape and "couture" finish of the fabric.
-
Steam Only: Avoid direct contact with a hot iron. Use a handheld steamer to remove wrinkles.
Hand Block Printed Fabrics (The Selah Collection)
-
No Direct Sunlight: Line dry in the shade. Direct sunlight can cause the intricate hand-block prints to fade over time.
-
Ironing: Iron on the reverse side while the garment is still slightly damp for a crisp finish.
Pure Linen
-
Embrace the Crinkle: Linen gets softer and more beautiful with every wash.
-
Drying: Do not wring or tumble dry. Lay flat or hang on a padded hanger to air dry.
3. Storage & Longevity
-
Avoid Plastic: Store your natural fiber clothes in breathable cotton bags or open shelves. Plastic covers can trap moisture and cause mildew.
-
Lavender/Neem: Use natural moth-repellents like dried lavender sachets or neem leaves to keep your wardrobe fresh.
